Kay is a multi-hyphenate creator born to an Alabama seamstress. After graduating high school, she joined the US Army, which took her all over the U.S. as well as overseas. She graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a BA in Theatre before gaining her film/tv foundation through the Georgia Film Academy. She also studied graduate level screenwriting for 1.5 years under Joy Goodwin & the late Peter Werner. Although bringing stories to life is her passion and career-focus, she's also a social activist for women, minorities, veterans, and people with disabilities. She is currently creating short films as she continues to explore stories that challenge inequality and the status quo. Kay has been a participant in several industry programs, including but not limited to, Warner Media Access to Action, Jennifer Warren’s Director the Actor Lab, Alliance of Women Directors Black Directors Advancement Initiative, and the Writer's Guild Foundation Veterans Writing Project.
